Sore Throat-Firecracker Water

March 16th, 2009

This is one of my favorites. I served a mission and one of my mission companions told me about this:

Gargle Hydrogen Peroxide morning and night and your sore throat is gone within three days or less! (Of course there might be exceptions, but generally this has really been the affect for me.)

Don’t swallow it. And read the bottle. The bottle says to dilute it, but I have been fine doing full strength.

It tastes like firecrackers!! Yuck!–What price are you willing to pay to get over that annoying sore throat? Gargling with mint mouth wash or Listerine afterwards (or brushing your teeth) gets rid of the flavor nicely. Yay. Health again. :)

Please comment with your Get-over-your-sickness Tips. We will all benefit!

The Common Cold-Garlic

March 15th, 2009

Garlic is an excellent anti-oxidant!! –But it can also make your breath smell bad, too.

At first you may just want to take a half a clove of garlic once or twice a day. Tune into your body and determine if you want to take more than that. I can take a few whole cloves of garlic a day when I’m sick, but I wasn’t able to do that before. Here is a way to get the full benefit of garlic without anyone even knowing you touched the stuff:

1. Peel a fresh clove of garlic.

2. Cut it in half, then cut one of the halves into pieces so that the pieces are roughly the size of a Tic-Tac.

3. With your knife (just try to touch the open garlic as little as possible with your fingers) put the happy little garlic pieces into a cup.

4. Put a little bit of water in the cup (enough so the pieces swish around), swish the pieces around and hurry and drink it. Then hurry and drink some more water.

The whole idea is to let the garlic touch your mouth directly as little as possible. Really you can consume the garlic any way you want to, but if it touches you it might make you smell like garlic. Sometimes I just mix the garlic pieces with a spoon of yogurt or something I don’t have to chew.

5. If your hands smell like garlic get them wet and sprinkle some salt on them and use it like soap. This effectively gets garlic or onion smells from your hands (and maybe your mouth, too.)

If you know any get-over-your-sickness tips, please put them in the comments. You may help a boatload of people get over their sickness!! :)
